Gender and Society

I am a GIRL named AMY

My parent did tell me about the story when I am still in my mother’s womb when I still was a child. They told me that some of the old folks can guess that I will be a baby girl by looking at my mother’s stomach and my second brother’s nipples. I do not remember either the stomach is hanging higher or lower is a baby girl. One thing for sure is my second brother’s nipple is sinking down like cut into half which make the old folk predict that I will be born as a girl.
My mother was so happy and gave birth to me at Bintulu Hospital instead of just give birth to me at Tatau Clinic like both of my brother. My father waited outside when my mother gave birth to me and he said that I cried so loud until he can hear it from outside. He was so sure that it was me crying because I am the only baby that born that night. My mother said that the womb cord stick to my stomach longer than any of my brothers which mean that I will always miss home even more than them.
My aunt gave both of my English and Chinese names. She chose Amy as my English name not because I am Christian but it is easier for my mother to call me since she is non Chinese. She chose the name that started with the letter A because I will be line up first in most of everything. She regrets to give my second brother’s name as Peter because he needs to wait quite a while until the sequences of the letter P. She will always choose two syllable names because it is easier for everyone to pronoun it. For an instance, she named my little brother Andy, three nieces as Kelly, Kathy and Karen. I love to be the first when I line up to get great like my certificate, food and report card. Unfortunately, I will also be the first person to get injection when I am still in primary school.
I dress like little boy when I was a kid since I got a lot of second hand clothes that left for me by my brothers but still I do have pretty and girly clothes to wear during special occasions. I am more boyish when I was a child since I got no sister but three brothers. Both of my elder brothers always bully me because I am a girl. I still remember that they always said my mother pick me up for the garbage bin in front of the house. I will keep asking my mother whether it is true or not every time they tease me. My mother told me that I am really her daughter but sometimes, when I keep annoying her with the same question over and over again, she agree with my brothers and I did cried for quite sometime after that.
When I was 15, I become more girly because I want to be in love. I started to change my hairstyle, wear pretty clothes and high heel and became a shophaholic. After in love, girl usually will think about marriage and having a baby of their own and so do I. My mom treat the differently compare to my brothers since I am a girl. I will get a Minnie Mouse birthday cake instead of Power Ranger birthday cake like my brothers on my seventh birthday. Other than that, she will buy me a pinky towel instead other colours which make me different from my brothers. I am sure that I am a girl since I was born a XX chromosome with female genital, feminine characteristics and in love with different sex of human being.
